On November 3, 2022, at approximately 11:00 am, school administrators at West Clermont Middle School, located at 1341 Clough Pike, Batavia Township , were made aware of an 6th grade student who was displaying a list of names, to include students, whom he plan to harm. Administrators initiated an investigation then immediately contacted the Clermont County Sheriff’s School Resource Officer, who was on campus. Based on information received, the school staff conducted a search of the student’s property and recovered the list of names from the student.
The SRO took possession of the list of names and contacted the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Unit, who responded to the middle school for further investigation. The student told detectives he had made a “hit list” but further stated he had no intentions of carrying it out.
The male student, age 11, was removed from the school and released to his parents. Detectives have confirmed the student did not have means or access to any firearms. This investigation was reviewed with the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office and it was determined that one count of Disorderly conduct in a school zone, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree would be filed through Juvenile Court.
“The safety of staff and students within our schools is and will remain a priority of the Sheriff’s Office. We will continue to encourage students to report any issue that jeopardizes the safety of students on Campus.” Sheriff Leahy
