On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at 5:13 PM the Clermont County Communications Center received a 911 call regarding an intoxicated male with a firearm at a residence located in the 4600 block of Ireton Rd. in Jackson Township. When deputies arrived on scene they observed Anthony Winkler, age 59, unconscious with a laceration to his head. Jackson Township EMS responded to the scene to treat Winkler and requested Air Care to respond. Winkler was transported by Air Care to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Deputies on scene questioned witnesses and determined that Winkler was intoxicated and threatened his live in girlfriend with a firearm.  Cedrick Smith, age 45, intervened in the altercation and struck Winkler with his fist in an effort to disarm him. The blow rendered Winkler unconscious and Smith called 911. No shots were fired and no other witnesses were injured during the incident.

A Detective from the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Unit responded to the scene and the investigation remains ongoing. The case will be reviewed with  the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office once the investigation is complete.
