Drone Unit

In 2019, the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office launched its Drone Program—an initiative that has rapidly grown into a valuable public-safety resource. The program now includes eight FAA-certified pilots who train monthly to maintain advanced proficiency in all mission types.

The Sheriff’s Office operates a diverse fleet of drones, including platforms built specifically for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations and others designed to support our S.W.A.T. team by safely clearing interior spaces before personnel make entry. We recently added specialized drone-mapping and search software that enhances our ability to locate missing or wanted subjects, with real-time video streaming that improves situational awareness and streamlines decision-making.

During natural disasters such as tornadoes or flooding, our drones support Command Centers by mapping damaged areas, assessing hazards, and locating individuals who may be in distress. Several units can deliver first-aid kits, water, or a phone to people who are otherwise difficult or dangerous to reach. Many of our drones feature thermal imaging, significantly improving detection capabilities both day and night.
The Sheriff’s Office drone program has already saved lives and contributed to numerous criminal apprehensions. We are frequently called upon to assist neighboring agencies, and we remain proud to share our technology and expertise throughout the region.
