Report of Possible Firearm on Batavia Elementary School Bus Investigated

On October 6th, 2026, at approximately 4:03 p.m., the Clermont County Communications Center received a 911 call from the Batavia Local School District Bus Garage. The caller reported that a bus driver had radioed the garage after a student reported that a 10-year-old fifth grade student stated they had a gun in their backpack while riding the school bus.

The bus driver immediately pulled the bus over in the 100 block of Forest Meadow in Batavia Township and waited for law enforcement to arrive.

Deputies from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly and arrived at the bus at approximately 4:07 p.m. Deputies immediately addressed the reported safety concern and determined that the student did not have a firearm in their possession.

Detectives from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office responded and conducted the investigation. Detectives interviewed several students, including the student involved, and determined that no threats had been made.

The parents of the students involved were notified, and the school district has taken appropriate disciplinary action.

Following a review of the incident with the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office, it was determined that no criminal charges will be filed. The matter will be handled administratively by the school district.

The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office continues to work closely with local school officials to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
