On July 1, 2025, Kevin Oberschlake, age 59, of Clermont County, was charged in connection with the death of two dogs. He faces the following charges:
The investigation began on June 30, 2025, at 6:55 p.m., when Clermont County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2200 block of State Route 125 in Batavia Township. A female caller, who reported the incident, stated that the two deceased canines were her pets. She had recently been incarcerated and had left the animals in the care of her former boyfriend, Kevin Oberschlake. The deceased dogs were described as a poodle and a chihuahua mix.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Unit responded and executed a search warrant for the camper located on the property. Inside, they discovered two deceased dogs confined in a cage with no access to food or water. The camper had no electricity or air conditioning, and investigators determined that the animals died due to prolonged neglect.
Later that evening, at approximately 10:26 p.m., detectives located and interviewed Oberschlake in the 2900 block of Mount Olive Point Isabel Road in Franklin Township. During the interview, he admitted to confining the dogs on June 25 and failing to return to care for them. He told investigators he disliked animals and was attempting to retaliate against the caller. He further admitted to forgetting to provide food and water and stated that he returned only once, briefly opened the camper door, and left without tending to the animals.
On the evening of July 1, 2025, Oberschlake was taken into custody by Clermont County deputies without incident. He was transported to the Clermont County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
Oberschlake is scheduled for arraignment on July 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Clermont County Municipal Court, before Magistrate Matthew Graber.
