Second Update: Two Indicted from the investigation at Hoppy's Place

On June 17th, 2025, the Clermont County Grand Jury indicted Daryl Johnson and Aaron McCall for their actions at Hoppy's Place Bar and Grill which occurred on June 12th, 2025. They were indicted for the following charges:


Daryl Johnson:

(1) count of Having Weapons while Under Disability, a Felony of the 3rd degree

(1) count of Attempted Possession of a Firearm in a Liquor Permit Premises, a Felony of the 4th degree


Aaron McCall:

(2) counts of Felonious Assault, both a felonies of the 2nd degree


Both subjects remain in custody at the Clermont County Jail. Both are scheduled to appear before Clermont County Common Pleas, Judge Victor Haddad on June 18th, 2025, at 10am.

** Update: Two charged and in custody resulting from the investigation at Hoppy’s Place. **

The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Unit is continuing its investigation into the incident described in the original release on the evening of June 12th, 2025, at Hoppy’s Place. The individual found lying unresponsive in the parking lot, with visible head trauma, has been identified as Daryl Johnson (age 43) of Monroe Township, Clermont County. Johnson was transported by AirCare to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment and was released around 6:30 a.m. on June 13th. Upon his release, Johnson was taken into custody by Clermont County Sheriff’s Deputies on the following charge:

(1) count of Having Weapons Under Disability, a felony of the 3rd degree


After collecting all evidence and interviewing witnesses, Aaron McCall, (age 34) of Monroe Township was identified as an involved party. Detectives determined that McCall caused serious physical harm to Johnson. Deputies searched for and located McCall at the Culver Court Apartments in the 3300 block of State Route 132 of Pierce Township, where he was taken into custody without incident. McCall cooperated and provided a statement to detectives about his involvement. Additionally, a Search Warrant was conducted on the apartment he was located. McCall was transported to the Clermont County Jail after being charged with:

(1) count of Felonious Assault, a felony of the 2nd degree


Both subjects remain in custody at the Clermont County Jail. 


McCall attended his arraignment at the Clermont County Municipal Court on June 13th, 2025,and was given $250,000 cash or surety bond


Johnson is scheduled to appear at the Clermont County Municipal Court on June 13th, 2025, at 1pm. He is currently being held without bond.

This investigation will be reviewed in its entirety with the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office for presentation to the Grand Jury for consideration of additional charges.

Original Release:

Clermont County Sheriff’s Office investigates a report of “a man with a loaded gun outside” of Hoppy’s Place, located at 3404 SR 132, Batavia Township.

On June 12, 2025, at 8:55pm, the Clermont County Communications Center received a 911 call from a female reporting that a male was on scene at Hoppy’s Place “with a loaded gun.” 


Road Patrol Deputies arrived on the scene at 8:57pm and located an adult male lying unresponsive in the parking lot of the establishment suffering from obvious head trauma. 


Central Joint Fire/EMS responded to the scene at 9pm, provided immediate medical assistance and called for AirCare.


AirCare arrived on scene at 9:24pm and flew the male subject to University Hospital at 9:45pm, where he remains with non-life-threatening injuries. 


The identity of the victim is not being released at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing.
